The first blog by a British prisoner. Variously described as being "obviously extremely intelligent" (Michael Gove), "the most interesting interview I have ever done" (Michael Portillo), and a "fully paid up member of the awkward squad" (Parole Board), I try to generate debate around the moral and political nexus that is imprisonment. Imprisoned between ages 14 to 47, released on Licence in August 2012

Oi, Grandad
People aged 60 and over are now the fastest growing age group in the prison system. Ah, the youth of today...(NOMS, Feb 2008)
I love the title you gave to fact that people aged 60 and over are the fastest growing age group in prisons, and I am glad for the information.
One of my neighbors who is sixty has just been put in jail - awaiting sentencing very soon for making death threats against his daughters, his girlfriend and myself ( I played it down to the police ), but his daughters are pressing charges.
Although this neighbor can be a right what not at times, jail is no place for him, he has terminal health problems, exacerbated by a couple of beatings he received, one whilst in Jail, the other when he was let out on bail before breaking his conditions and having to go back inside.
Still, for a drug dealer, its amazing he has survived, I know his daughters would be happy if he retired from his precarious profession and grew old gracefully!

Some people forget that crime is generally a young mans game!
