Advice for Life

This was told to me early on in my sentence by another Lifer:

1 Deny everything

2 Admit nothing

3 Keep them talking until you find out how much they know

I don't know if this is any good in the outside world but it helped me to negotiate the last thirty years in prison!

  1. Yup, sounds about right! Haha.

  2. I'd say that for life outside, it's not much of recipe for truth and honestly and could actually lead to you being inside.

Our here it is about taking responsibility.

  3. No comment.

Okay, then: spot on. (Be fair, Daniel, this is all about self-defence in a hostile environment!)

  4. Sure, I was talking about that not working in the outside world, unless you want to treat the outside world as hostile, which I think is pretty negative but inside, I'm sure that stands to be true.

  5. Pragmatic and effective in the outside world it might be, but it will not change things or move us forward as a society I fear.

  6. oh yes, it is very good advice for us and I am going to practice those three; deny everything, admit nothing and keep them talking from now on, great stuff, thank you Ben!

  8. I think it might be better to replace the first two with: say nothing. Which is not something I find easy.

  9. syncopated eyeball, I am with ben here because like you I find it difficult not to say something when questioned. I started as a young girl and I had an argument with my mother until she gave up. She left me in charge of the chicken that she was cooking whilst she went to fetch water. I chased the chicken, I caught the chicken and I gave the chicken to my mother who killed it and cooked it for her special guests. But when she was dishing the cooked chicken, one thigh was missing and I denied all knowledge of it and argued that the chicken had one leg when I was chasing it. I still use the same method today and it works.

  10. Florence- beware of the tangled web you weave, when you first practice to decieve! Bens idea is best, say nothing!

  11. Anonymous - I know because I still got clubbed for stealing the chicken thigh and I learnt my lesson, i.e. don't steal and don't lie. Once one starts lying one has to have a memory and resources of a spider. A spider webbs itself around its secretion and never constricts itself or runs out of the silk. I have dealt with liars and the more they lie the more they get distressed! Silence is golden!

  12. @ Florence. That's what I said - say nothing!

Do you mean I should say nothing all the time? If so, that is an imposibility. What I am able to do though is to remain silent when I am accused of crimes I did not commit or when busy bodies want me to tell them about things that have nothing to do with them or want to know about my personal life.
