The first blog by a British prisoner. Variously described as being "obviously extremely intelligent" (Michael Gove), "the most interesting interview I have ever done" (Michael Portillo), and a "fully paid up member of the awkward squad" (Parole Board), I try to generate debate around the moral and political nexus that is imprisonment. Imprisoned between ages 14 to 47, released on Licence in August 2012

Transfers and Coincidences
At a management meeting a governor read out a list of cons she wants transferred. By sheer coincidence, they were all the cons who have had their laptops removed on a managerial whim and are pursuing compensation claims. That's not exactly a subtle application of pressure, is it?
Its f**ked up.

ReplyDeleteWhy on earth would anyone expect prison staff to be subtle? With few exceptions prison officers work in prison because they could not get other jobs - not because they are highly skilled, intelligent and subtle people. It is unfortunate for Ben that he is more intelligent than perhaps 85% of the staff in the prison - not all prisoners would be able to acknowledge and understand the management's decision to transfer in the circumstances described.
ReplyDeleteKeep going Ben - a lot of what you tell us confirms my statement above.
