Spreading my Wings

I seem to have caused a minor kerfuffle with my piece about violent protests, which made me think. That was probably my first foray into non-criminal justice issues and if it engages you that much then maybe I should do it more often?

This is, essentially, a blog about prison and its adjacent political and social environs. I cannot conceive of it being anything other, ever. And yet...It's not as if I'm short of opinions on, well, just about anything. Just ask the poor sods who have to put up with me day in and day out.

So, I am toying with the idea of writing one post a month that isn't necessarily directly related to prison. It's likely to be, in its broadest sense, a 'political' piece.

This is just a thought mind you, and it carries the risk of affording you a greater insight into my world-view. I may seem quite sane and thoughtful on prison issues but if I broaden my scope you may discover that I'm a raving loon. Thoughts, please!

  1. I think you should go for it. It would be interesting to hear your political views, especially as you have never had the luxury(?) of voting for any of the parties who have run the Country during your time detained at her Majesty's Pleasure!!. In fact, as a "fully paid up member of the awkward squad" I think you would fuel debate on any issue you comment on. Keep up the excellent work.

  2. Why not indeed, you should make a category for it and call it Desert Island Discourse for example.

Can you put Google Adsense on this blog please?

  3. It would be most interesting to find out whether you're a raving loony or not.

  4. Well, it's your blog, do what you like with it, though the comment I would make is that you have little to no experience of the outside world and the way it works now nor therefore the way that today's politics affects it.

Still not knowing what they're talking about seldom stops politicians so no need to let it stop you!

  5. To which I'll add, you're a white heterosexual male who speaks their mind.

You're mad Ben except it, your skin colour, your sexuality and your gender proves it...End of.

  6. You should definitely do it, Ben. As a citizen of this sceptred isle, your opinion is just as valid as the next man's but it is expressed rather better than is usual.

  8. Yep, Ignorance is no barrier to useful comment. I mean that without irony.

And as a white, straight male you are representing a great proportion of the population. I say that as a white, bent male.

  13. I am more known for prison law, but I am also a political animal. Politics is about power. And law is about politics. The ignorant Sunny Hundal of Liberal Conspiracy blog once insulted my intelligence, in effect, by stating I am a one trick pony, ie prisoners votes. It couldn't be further from the truth. However, I do get a certain pleasure from knowing that Labour spent 5 years trying to knock a hole in my case and left power having failed.

    Yes, indeed, go for it.
