From the Ed:
Ben was told yesterday that he is to be transferred to an open prison this coming Wednesday.
Let's hope he actually makes it this time...

The first blog by a British prisoner. Variously described as being "obviously extremely intelligent" (Michael Gove), "the most interesting interview I have ever done" (Michael Portillo), and a "fully paid up member of the awkward squad" (Parole Board), I try to generate debate around the moral and political nexus that is imprisonment. Imprisoned between ages 14 to 47, released on Licence in August 2012
Great news! - Good luck Ben.
ReplyDeleteThat is excellent news. Here's hoping he does make it this time!
ReplyDeleteKeeping everything crossed for Ben to move - don't get involved in anything stupid before that Ben! Very best wishes and good luck.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading the blogs from a different scene so make sure you don't do anything to prevent you getting there Ben!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, I am very pleased for Ben.
ReplyDeleteI hope he is feeling okay, content and relaxed; ready for all the trials and challenges of open prison.
Its quite exciting really, isn't it?
Well done to you, Ben, to have finally made it ( almost ), but I have some faith in you : )
What a life you've had, what incredible stories you have to tell everyone, all the best x
Really, Wednesday you say? I smell a rat, publishing, or even letting a 3rd party know of a move would be a security risk, in case anyone attempts to kidnap the prison van en-route. Whatever happends, i doubt now it will be Wednedsay. When my partner was moved, he did not know till the morning, and i got a call from a screw to cancel the visit, and i only found out where he was 3 days later, as his phone credits did not get sorted till then.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, good for you Ben, glad your making progress through the system.
Under normal circumstances you would be right Anonymous, But Ben is being transferred to a Cat 'D'(Open Prison) - Making escape from the van pointless.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Ben and tell yout mates to hang onto their mobiles!
ReplyDeleteGood news indeed! Hope it happens for you this time. look forward to hearing tales from a cat D :-) x
ReplyDeleteAnon, 5.07. Prisoners travelling to an open prison are sometimes taken by taxi as they are considered to be a low risk. Back in the day, they even caught a bus on occasion, as long as they turned up the other end! You are probably referring to a transfer between 2 high security establishments, where the date would have been kept quiet for obvious reasons.
ReplyDeleteCertainly when I was "transferred" to Open, I was given day release and a warrant, and made my own way there in my own clothes, only to have them taken away on arrival at Leyhill!
