I have just received my first ever voting papers! Alas, they are for the elections for the new Police and Crime Commissioners....
I could have some fun by loudly supporting the candidate I least like - "murderer supports candidate X..." That should help the opposition, don't you think?

If you have managed to find a complete list of candidates with sufficient information about each to determine who you least like then you are doing better than most.
ReplyDeleteWe have recieved ours and have no idea who is standing and I don't know anyone who does know! (Do the candidates know?)
ReplyDeleteapparently the full candidate list for the constabulary I live in will be published on Tuesday. As it stands I have currently seen more advertising for Barack Obama than for the PCC position.
DeleteThe best thing about these elections is that my village hall, of which I'm treasurer, gets £90 in its coffers for use as a polling station.
ReplyDeleteDoubt that your idea of "having some fun" would cause the furore that you would hope for Ben. I believe I've already pointed out you're not the messiah; you're just another ex con out on the streets.
ReplyDeleteBeing a cause célèbre must have been lovely, but now the cause is gone there isn't all that much to celebrate is there??
Cynic-Al
Hah! Excellent timing with that comment. I wonder if you were actually typing it as Ben was being interviewed by Jon Snow?
Delete'Cynic-Al, thanks for waking me up with your catastrophic sense of humour failure.
ReplyDeleteJust a nobody trying to justify his existance.A has been-now ex con who is trying to curry flavour with other extremely sad individuals who need to get a life.Instead of abusing The Police/HMPS/Judiciary-if Ben was suitably rehabilitated- he would not be so bitter & twisted. Unfortunately life does not mean natural life in most circumstances. If it did, then Ben would be banged up where he so obviously belongs away from the real world where he is now under a life licence & can be recalled to jail at any time. There's always room at the inn for recalls!
ReplyDeleteWhat an ignorant person you seem to be - you should be encouraging rehabilitation in ALL ex prisoners, and odd as that may seem that includes Ben! Pity you can't spell either!!
DeleteI, as a member of the public, am glad that not everybody who works in the judicial system is like you and we who follow the blog are not 'extremely sad individuals etc' we are people who want to see people change and make a success of their lives as well as being interested in what is happening in prisons.
@Anonymous 11.38 What a sad, twisted little individual you are. a "Life sentence" has never meant a whole life term until very recently. And if you'd done your training properly, you;d know and understand that. Try re-reading your Lifer Manual sometime.
ReplyDeleteMary-you're definately one of those sad individuals I've referred to. I also don't work for the judicial system. Rehabilitation does not work when it's enforced upon someone-most cons/ex cons will tell you that. Far better if you devoted your time to something far more worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! He can't spell again. Who do you think you are making suggestions about what I do with my time! Thank heavens not everyone is as ignorant as you. Actually I do lots of other things with my time but I do hope they are not as insulting and ignorant as you are to others.
Delete@ Cynic-Al - I hope your not up for commissioner - I would vote against you! I find your comments very ignorant and offensive. I for one know Ben personally and secondly had the mis-fortune of doing time for an offence I was later cleared of, which resulted also in charges against the Police sackings and other investigations. Therefore I can strongly agree with the majority of peoples comments on here about the judicial system and although I might be anti-police the only reason being is because these so called Judicial People e.g prison officers, probation and Police are constantly telling you that your no good, you will end up back in prison, and you will not be rehabilitated. Ex-cons as you refer to them as - certainly do not like retards like you having to keep reminding us of this! For the record I have not committed any offences since and now run a very successful company with a 7 figure turnover. So firstly Cynic-Al stick that in your pipe and smoke it and finally it shows that people can do what they want in life.
ReplyDeleteHaving lead a lawful life,I for one don't fear the Judiciary at all. They have my utmost respect having had to deal with the likes of habitual offenders & others who have simply 'got away with it' on technicalities. Those on here who are anti police/prison etc obviously have huge chips on their shoulders & are hiding something.
ReplyDeleteAnonymousOctober 22, 2012 3:02 PM "Having lead a lawful life".
ReplyDeleteYou mean you never got caught or got one your friends to help you out:- leaving spiteful messages? Would you do that face to face or are you as cowardly as you come across?
Face to face has always been good for me.Trouble is I've got nothing to hide-unlike some on here!
ReplyDeleteWho? What? Don't be shy, go ahead, say what you want to say. Obviously you wouldn't be making such allegations if you didn't have the evidence to back them up, right?
DeleteAnonymousOctober 22, 2012 3:21 PM What's your name and what do you do for a living?
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous October 22, 2012 3:02 PM - I do not fear them at all either, because I took the liberty of standing up to them and won, so face to face is fine by me! For the record I did not win on technicalities I won on appeal, because of new evidence, being contempt of court and perjury. While we are on that subject how many innocent people have had their lives ruined by the 'so called judiciary' fabricating evidence, tampering etc. etc. Different situation then is it? Or the countless pOlice officers, prison officersetc, who get away with crimes because of technicalities? I have no chip on my shoulder whatsoever! When your on the right side of law (yes, like you!!) you will find there are no issues. Only those who get on the wrong side albeit deliberately, chance or whatever - even if you are then found to be clear and justice is done - your still labelled as a criminal. Its the people like you who are very biased in their opinions which makes my blood boil!
ReplyDeleteGet real! What I say may/may not be the truth anyway! You may refer to me as anonymous from anywhere who does work/doesn't work.My views are my views. You'll not change them nor will you be able to. So before this becomes insulting/abusive/disrespectful etc etc-this anonymous person will not reply anymore to anything else posted as it's a waste of my time!
ReplyDelete"My views are my views. You'll not change them nor will you be able to."
DeleteThat says everything any of us needs to know.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a sharp rise in the number of Anons who appear, have a cheap mindless dig, then run away with the words "wasting my time" etc as a parting shot? methinks there is a not very clever single troll behind this, unable to recognise his own literary traits.
DeleteSadly, I think this is just the nature of internet "discussions". You're blog is popular now, you are getting more widely known. These could quite easily all be different people. You can get plugins that allocate a random icon to each commenter based on IP address. They don't even require people to put a pseudonym in the name field but they let us see when the same person is repeat posting.
Delete@ Anonymous October 22, 2012 3:41 PM - In relation to your last comment 'Phew there is a GOD after all!!! Praise be!
ReplyDeleteCan people please start going to "comment as->name/URL." It does not require registration and does not lower your anonymity one bit. However it does make it a lot easier to read through the conversations and ends all this "anonymous hour:minute" stuff.
ReplyDeleteAs for rehabilitation meaning that a person should not be bitter and twisted, or that they should love the system, that is scary. We want rehabilitated individuals not rehabilitated drones. At the risk of sounding cliche, that is essentially the point of the plot lines of A Clockwork Orange and Nineteen Eighty Four.
As for the attitude Ben presents, there are plenty of anti-authority types that are not violent. Of course some are, but at the same time several pro-authority figures can be quite violent. However, his response is to get a job for a group that tries to constructively reform the system. Whether or not you agree with the aims of the Howard League I cannot see how that can be seen as anything but a positive attitude.
Re commenting; yes, please do use a name, even if its at the end of a comment, it would help. The above 'debate' doesn't make much sense to me without knowing who said what, and the numbers don't enlighten things either.
DeleteSeconding the plea for people to use the name/URL function. It's not complicated or confusing: you just click one option up from where you're already clicking to comment as anonymous, and you don't have to provide an URL - I don't. Trying to keep track of all the Anons is irritating for all concerned. I don't care what you call yourself, but please pick something and stick with it.
ReplyDeleteWould also ask for people to use a name (nick- or real). Thanks.
